Just wondering if this is normal. 5820k being cooled by a NH-C14S. At idle, I have about a 5C difference between my hottest and coolest core, and during stress test, a 10C difference. Its always the same cores. I've reapplied thermal paste and it seems to be getting an even coverage. Just wondering if this is normal.

Solution
Hello... With thermal paste less is better... metal to metal is the best thermal connection... typically I just put a thin, even film, with my clean finger on both the Heatsink and Cpu.
Also it takes about Week? before the contact with force, heat, parts and paste stabilize.

Well I did just switch to this cooler, (before I had a U9S) and it had the same 10C difference. I may have put too much thermal paste because I only saw about a 4C difference and I feel like the C14S should outperform the U9S more than that? Perhaps I need to check into that. I did just read one theory that the cores in the CPU that are not sandwiched between cores tend to run cooler which would be a possible explanation as my Core 0 and Core 5 seem to run the coolest.

Hello... Not all your Cores are running (processing) the APPs being run (idle)... But it IS possible you have a CPU that is not Flat? as your previous Thermal results shown... is RMA for the CPU still available?
1) utube "core parking" and disable it for your OS.
2) check your OS "Power settings" and give the CPU 100% min/max settings... reboot.

Well the 10C difference is under full load, not idle. And My temps seem to be normal for the 5820k (hottest core 31C at idle and 78C full load), just Core 0 and 5 are much cooler. Cores 1-4 are typically within 3C of each other. Still have warranty but cannot return to newegg anymore.
