as mentioned on the title... I dont have any pc right now. This one is the new build because the old one is broken. I used to have z68+2600k. I gaming and rendering(both cpu and gpu), no video editing. Which system I should go for to have future-proof and best p/p ?

Solution

What part is broken? Do you know? My advice is to repair what is broken and that's it. The improvement will be minimal no matter which route you go with the options you mentioned. The 2600K is a powerful cpu even by modern standards. Replace the motherboard if that is the issue, buy a good cpu cooler and overclock until you hit somewhere around 4.5Ghz and forget the rest of it, it's more or less a waste of money unless you require the extra cores ( I doubt you do) or want the features provided by the new platforms (again I doubt you do)

I'm a hardcore Pc gamer and work in Architecture industry. I have right now a z68 mainboard with broken cpu socket pins ( which I found out is really difficult to fix in England and not worth to buy another z68 2nd hand online). I used to run my 2600k 4.5ghz daily for 4 years so far with XSPC raystorm 750 Ex240. I got 16Gb DDR3 1600mhz, 1050W PSU ( i used to SLI 2 gtx780 but now I only have one). I have SSD and 2TB HDD and a corsair 600T case.

So i guess i have no choice but get a new platform. I got an offer from Scan Computer so i can get 6700k for like £286 and I quite like the new Z170 mainboard from asus. The only problem drive me crazy is the total price of 2 platforms dont have much difference ( only about £40 with same 16gb DDR4) therefore I'm really confused now which platform i should go for?

I always upgrade my rig each 3-4 years so I definitely need future-proof.

Thanks a lot for quick reply and any further advices. XD

You are right but with £40 gap between 2 platforms I can buy a lot of compression fittings for my WC loops or coolant, etc...
I will list all the things remain in my mind and hopefully someone will enlighten me XD

6700k+Z170 ROG VIII Hero
14nm, less TDP less electricity bills, 4 cores 8 threads, easy to overclock, new chipset with new technology on motherboard 100 series, still mainstream but could be upgrade later(?)

5820k+x99-A
22nm, higher TDP, 6 cores 12 threads, not easy to overclock if compare with 6700k(more core more difficulty), not really old technology but some features for gaming dont have on this mainboard, not sure about upgrade later because of socket 2011-3

My personal choice is still X99 but I'm still confused is it worth to sacrifice some features on new z170 mainboard and get the durability of x99 and 2 more cores, etc?

overclocking on the x99 platform isn't "hard"... its just that it will get lower results, as more cores = less chance to get high overclocks.
the LGA 2011-v3 socket is only in its first generation, and broadwell-e is coming to it, and even skylake-e might be getting to it...
the RoG boards has some features that seem interesting, but are all probably pure marketing... you will probably wont use it...

I think the extra 2 cores, more PCIe lanes, and quad channel RAM support overtakes anything the RoG board offers.

they are all used and spending abt £90-120 for a 2nd hand mainboard while I can get a new one with new technology for a same price? And there is no guarantee that those 2nd mainboard will last long because they are 2nd and already been used for a while.

TBH im not gonna spend lots of £ on new cpu new ddr4 new mainboard if my cpu socket pins on my z68 was not bent and cant fix. I'm happy with 4.5Ghz daily and save money for upgrading VGA. Please help me to choose between 2 of new platforms because when I decided to upgrade my build, I sold 2600k and 16gb DDR3 LOL

get the x99 platform. z170 is mainstream, and x99 is enthusiast. that's all I really need to say.

They are not all second hand if you simply review the pages.

anything wrong with this one?

That z75 above is so good but its too late i sold my 2600k and 16gb ddr3 when i thought im gonna upgrade anyway... Ahhhhh T_____T

I could go for a new 21:9 monitor instead of buy new platform 🙁

but since you have sold your CPU, what are you going to use with it?
