So basically this is a 2 year old discussion with a new twist.
I have a 7770 (Link)
I can get my hands on a couple of 5850's for pennies ($60 for both) I was surprised to find that the 5850 has 1440 streaming processors and the other stats are about the same. It would seem like a no brainer that a pair of those would be better than the 7770 I already have.
So here are my scenarios.
1. I have a 600 watt power supply (Link)
ONE 5850 says it needs a 500w supply. Will my 600 be adequate? (I think it has 4 connectors)
2. Is a single 5850 comparable to the 7770 as many games wont support crossfire.
Again, would i have the power to run this?
3. Could i have one 5850 and one 7770 and use the weaker of the two for other tasks like physics or something? again, would power supply output become an issue?
4. My mainboard only has 1 x16 slot and one x4 slot. If i crossfire i will be hobbled down to the both being x4 (as i understand it) would this defeat the purpose of crossfire entirely?
5. Are there any secondary things i could have the 5850 do (like how you have second nvidia cards run physx and stuff)?
Basically i don't want to waste the opportunity to get a pretty high end graphics card for nearly free but cant find a reason for what would essentially be a sidegrade unless i can crossfire them.
