I got bored and wanted to see what would happen if I put my 5850 from my other computer into my 5870 rig for x8/x8 crossfire.

So, now I have a rig running x8/x8 Crossfire with 5870+5850. I have one crossfire bridge installed, the power is plugged in for sure, and I am running 11.2 drivers, but my framerate is lower in every game I have played compared to my single 5870 running in x16. Crysis was getting 37fps average at 1920x1080 with single 5870, and now I get 35 or lower with Hybrid CF.

I have read benchmarks comparing x8 to x16 bandwidth. Supposedly there shouldn't be an issue running these cards in crossfire in only x8/x8.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Sorry about the hybrid crossfire being confused with crossfire. Thanks for the info on that, too.

Every game I have gets lower fps or the same fps. (Usually lower)

Test Drive Unlimited 2 rarely dipped below 35fps, but now in CF it frequently hits 29fps.

Mafia 2 benchmark dropped from 53.1fps to 50.5 fps with CF. This could indicate that it is simply only running on the 5850 in Mafia 2 with CF enabled.

I also have Bad Company 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis 2 demo, Fallout 3, Dirt 2, MX vs ATV Reflex, Half-Life 1 & 2, Counter-Strike, and a few others.

I have heard that BC2 is CF enabled, so i'll do a benchmark on that in a minute.

Bad Company 2

(5870) min- 41 Max- 63 Avg-54.6

(CF) Min- 43 Max- 91 Avg-57.05fps

After getting these results, one thing is clear... I'll be sticking to single gpu solutions. lol

Try tweaking the CF profiles with Radeon pro( http://www.radeonpro.info/en-US/ )
For example, select BC2.And in the CFX settings, select Alternate Frame Rendering(For MVPU mode) and AFR-Friendly D3D(for "Force CrossfireX profiles") and see if your FPS improves or not
