Hey I'm planning to build my own computer soon.

From experience I had some heat problems with ATI cards before, such as 4870 running at 70C idle and all the way up to 90C almost boiling temperatures when gaming.

I'm wondering if there are any heat issues with 5870. I know that 4870 has less issues due to its low power consumption but, I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to buy a 4870X2 right now since it is getting outdated.

I'm also concerned about 5870's power issues, i know its a monster. I think that 5850 consumes less power?
Then again, I'm concerned about it's power issues.

I am not familiar with nvidia cards so yeah...

Suggestions? I'm a gamer btw, so yeah, graphic cards are important to me :)

HD 5870 is the way to go.All those cards are beasts with high power consumption.
But 5870 has lowest Power consumption.
It is lil bit slower than GTX 295 and on par with 4870X2.
But it runs cooler and has very very low idle power consumption.

It also has DX11 which is missing on the other two cards.
So get HD 5870.
HD 5850 is also a good option.Power consumption will be lil lower with 5850.

A good 500-550W PSU will be able to handle those cards.

Regarding heat issues:
You should check your case airflow.

I vote for HD 5870,the performance is on par with 4870X2 and a bit lower than GTX 295.
I would choose it over 4870X2 because of having newer techs like DX11 and eyefinity etc.
Also i would choose it over GTX 295 because of having a better price/performance ratio
