- Overview -

I've been waiting a long time for an 8-core as I'm sure most of you have. I'm looking to build an x99s platform with DDR4 32GB ram. Most likely an Nvidia 760 as i think the 980s are a bit pricey and I do not game as much anymore. I'd consider a Quattro card but know very little about them.

I have a quad-core build currently that ran on an ASUS motherboard which has been the biggest nightmare mobo I've ever purchased. Double posting, freezing, no recognistion of SSD drive, BSOD, Restarting, bla bla bla.

So I'm hesitant to buy a first generation mobo that supposedly supports the new i7s with x99 build. I have an MSI gaming laptop thats been great, but ive read some nasty reviews on Newegg regarding their Mobos. Dont know anything about AsRock or Gigabyte.

So amongst all my ramble. I'm excited and fearful. I want power and performance for rendering first before I go with gaming perks. However I do enjoy many of the popular games out now and play some competitive FPS, MMO, RPG games.

I use the Adobe suite, After Effects and Cinema4D as my bread and butter. Dual Monitor is a must!

Can you guys recommend me a good build?

i7 - 5960x
Nvidia - 760 or higher
DDR4 32 GB ram
A Fast SSD
Liquid Cooling Corsair Heat Sync
Mastercool case
Would most likely stick with Win7. Dont know much about the Ultimate, currently sporting the 7 Pro and 8.1 on the laptop which I'm not fond of.

$3.5k Budget more or less is fine.

Thanks guys!

By the way, a 6-core 5930k and 16GB 2400MHZ low-CAS RAM is more than enough for rendering, photoshop, etc. Then you can also get a GTX970 DualSL!I (my build above)

Great start. I really want to go with an 8-core and 32 gig ram. Looks like taht board has a max of 128 gb. I dont see any reason to go dual sli as most my programs dont even use the gpu. So processor, ram, and ssd are primary for me. I will be gaming, but even on my current build from 2011, the gtx 580 has been superb and overkill for anything ive thrown at it.

I like the ASRock mobo. wouldnt mind a fast boot drive. something that can utilize the m.2 sockets. I do not know enough about the new SSDs though. They seems kinda pricey. But might be willing to put some money down. Id like higher than a 120 gb. so 240 or 256 would be great. Also wouldnt mind utilizing more than 32 gb ram. 64 would be incredible.

Id like some high end ram. Can anyone advise me on the G.Skill Ripjaw 4 Series.
There are 3300 - 3000. For instance there is a $250 difference between the 3300 and the 3200 (4 x 4GB)
Is the +100 worth an extra $250 or is that just pissing in the wind?

I currently sport the GSkill Ripjaw and have never had issues with them.
