Hey there,

I recently bought a 5970 and have it connected to my samsung LCD syncmaster 2032MW to play games and stuff on however i wanted to watch movies and stuff on my sony bravia 32" LCD HD but i have this problem of the screen flickering and shaking around windows and edges.

Now the TV is 1080i and capable of 60Hz and the samsung is running at 1680x 1050 at 60Hz and i duplicated it through catalyst however when i check the setting on the sony tv itself it reports 1080i at 50 Hz. Could this be causing the flickering?

Also there is no option to force 1080i 60Hz on catalyst which i thought may have solved it as i suspect its due to the refresh difference between the 2 screens.

Im using a HDMI lead with a DVi adapter if that makes a difference.

I can run the sony on 720p at 60 Hz with no problems but would love to run it at 1080i knowing my TV supports it.

Any ideas guys? Iv spent hours googleing and can not seem to sort this issue, it driving me mad!

Cheers folks.

Han.

I've never seen an interlaced signal I liked. I ran component video from my 6600GT to my Sylvania 32" LCD back in the day, and while I could feed 720p across and it would look acceptable, 1080i really failed for desktop/text/games. Tried later with a DVI/HDMI adapter and an 8800GTS only to enjoy a similar failure. Nowadays my 8800GTS looks downright pleasant running HDMI to my new Samnsung 50" 1920*1050 @ 60Hz.

Short story: If the 720p is adequate, enjoy it! I haven't encountered much in the way of flicker so I can only comment on image quality. Good luck anyway!

Others are having a flickering issue also. I have one that only shows up on what ever my secondary display is. I have notified AMD and Saphire about the problem but no answer yet I don't know if it's software or hardware, but I have requested an RMA to return the board.
