Well one thing... there's no card of ATI with the number 5980, there's a 5970 and the 5870. Which one do you mean?
In any case, both the cards are better than HD5770 CF.
Yes we don't have anything called 5980(at least for now),its 5970 and 5970 performs pretty much like 2 HD 5850s in CrossFire so it performs better than 2 5750's in CF
With their prices as they are at the moment the HD5750 should basically be ignored in favor of the HD5770. Two of them in crossfire should end up a bit less powerful than an HD5870.
Unless you are gaming at 2560 x 1600 an HD5970 is a waste of money imo.
I Checked out the price diffs ->
+- R9000 - HD5870 in CF
+- R8000 - HD5980
+- R6000 - HD5770 in CF
All are within budget , i've got a Samsung 2333SW 23" LCD
2xHD 5870s perform better than a Single HD 5970,as i said HD 5790 performs pretty much like 2x HD 5850s in CrossFire, however the max resolution for your monitor is 1920x1200 so i think even a single HD 5870 would be fine for that res.

Not really if your playing Crysis and S.T.A.L.K.E.R And with the prices of current 5870 in my country, the HD 5970 is only 200$ more lol
Even an HD 5970 will struggle @ 1600p with those games.
From what I'm seeing an HD5870 handles the new Stalker decently maxed out at 1920x1200. Basically at that resolution an HD5970 serves one purpose: to be able to apply max AA to Crysis. If that's worth $200 to you then go for it I suppose.
Since you won't be able to get a 5850 or 5870 at a decent price anytime soon you should opt for dual 5770's... Basically the same performance-wise compared to the 5850 and 5870 in some games.
Agreed but in most games at high res they can battle it out with the 5850 and the 5870. I built a P55 with dual XFX 5770's and even with the handicap it still managed to get an avg. of 34FPS x2 AA and everything on Enthusiast so in all it does hold it's own and there were no CF issues whatsoever, downloaded the latest driver, made changes in CCC and installed the game...
Of course a single card config. would be the wiser choice but you guys talk about the 5850 and 5870 like it is selling at the Egg right now and that is not the case, first of all most sites are selling the 5850 around 50-100 dollars more than what it was at launch and that is IF you can get your hands on one. Same goes for the 5870 and 5970.
