Hi, im new so thanks in advance for the help

Ill keep it short:

I have an old netgear router thats only 2.4g. I purchased a 5g wireless repeater/ bridge. I have tried it via bridge mode and currently its wired into my main router.

Although 5g settings appear to be ok, I cant find the 5g mode of the repeater when scanning or when wired mode to the main router (i can find the basic 2.4g mode though).

This leads me to believe that the repeater has to scale down, to that of the netgear... thus I cannt find the 5g. Is this correct or should i still be able to see the 5g?

I've tried with an htc one m8, which is 5g compatible

OK. Is it possible that the localization for the repeater is set incorrectly and the 5Ghz channel it has chosen via "auto" is not in the range your device can identify?

Have you tried "WIFI Analyzer" on your phone. It gives a lot of info about the WIIF environment.

I have changed the frequency away from auto. What 'should' I set it at?

The lower channels are most universally available. What country are you in?

UK. Mines set at something like 140 and 40m.

If I change them, will the phone pick up 5g? I would have thought it would have been automatic
