Hello,
So I have been looking for a solution on the forums and other places around the web and can't seem to find one. But I have a Asus 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter, and for some reason the 5GHz channel will not show up. It should be called NETGEAR24-5G as I named it in the router login thing.

These are the only options I have to connect to:

The adapter I have comes with the Asus Z97-Pro I bought when I built my PC, and have had no problems with it for almost a year now. I have tried some things on other forums, to no avail. The adapter is advertised to have Dual Band support, which makes me think it should work.

PS: The Hidden Network is not it. I have tried.

Thanks,
Peter!

EDIT: The Router is a NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router (WNDR2400) and the card is a 802.11a/g/n/ac that came with the Z97-Pro as I said, and specifications can be found here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97PROWiFi_ac/specifications/

Solution
5G network is shorter range than 2.4 and if a device can see the 5ghz network it is a dual band card. can you move the pc or router closer? doesnt have to be hooked to internet. just power to see if it is a range issue.

The router is a NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router (WNDR3400) and the card is a Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac from Asus, and it does not say anything else besides it does support dual band 2.4/5GHz. It came with the Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac) and you can find it under specifications at this page. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97PROWiFi_ac/specifications/

It has shown up on other devices, as I named it differently on Netgear Genie. However the devices that it has shown up on have been iPhones and such, so from what I know, they can't connect to 5GHz signals. I have check the Netgear Genie and I see nothing that would suggest its off. Here is a quick screenshot of some settings on the panel:

Thanks,

Is it possible that the 5GHz channel has a smaller range and that is causing it? Although it has shown up on devices a bit further away, it could possibly be a factorr, however I really don't know.

Ok, I will try this once I get back to the house. Will the network show up as usual if its not plugged into the modem? And if range is the issue would buying a 5GHz repeater help, or will it slow it to the point that using the 2.4GHz signal is probably better?

Thanks, I will post my results later.

Ok! So it is a range issue, is there a way to extend the range or will I just have to buy a repeater? (And will it slow it down?)

Yea a repeater can slow it down a bit unless you get a good repeater. Also if you aren't moving files off the PC to other PC's then as long as thew wireless conection is as fast as your internet you are good. Like me I have Verizon FiOS 25 up and 25 down. If my Laptop is getting at least 50Mbps on the signal strength then I'm already maxing out my internet so no point of needing it faster. if you are streaming video moving files from one PC on wifi to another then yea you want it as fast as it can be.

But either you got to get an Extender or find a way to move them together. but again you will probably be just fine using the 2.4Ghz network

Ok, thanks for your help! I think I will just get an extender, as it will be nice not being on the same internet trying to game while others are streaming in HD.
