I have a Toshiba c55-c5241. My adapter is listed as a broadcom 802.11n and I have always been able to connect to 5ghz networks in the past.
I am running windows 10, and have tried updating the drivers from toshiba (ver.7.35.333.0), rolled back the drivers, and let windows install it's pick.
2.4Ghz works fine, but despite numerous 5ghz networks in range of my phone and other devices, I cannot see any on my laptop. I am not sure when this started, as I only started paying attention when i upgraded from n300 to a netgear c6300 ac1200 last month, but i know it was working in november with my fiance's 5ghz comcast issued Arris router.

I am about a 7/10 on the computer savvy scale(1=grandma 5=typical BestBuy employee), but this has me baffled.

Solution
Among the possible solutions, try these.

Wifi issues following the latest update is a problem. One thing that can clear it up is just to power down the computer and reboot. If that doesn't help see the following for more information that may be of help.

Also try setting the channel on the router to a fixed number from auto. 5 GHz Wifi can get interference from 5.8 GHz cordless phones. Try fixed channels from 36 through 48.
