Question 6+2pin pcie cable not correct orientation for gpu

I recently got a power supply unit that has a 6+2 pin pcie connector but it’s notches doesn’t fit the orientation of my 8pin graphics card.

Yes, they do. Either you aren't pre-sliding the +2 onto the 6pin first to make the full 8pin a solid connector, or you are trying to plug it in upside down.

What is the make/model of your psu?
If modular, is the correct cable end plugged into the psu?

Power notches are keyed to only fit one way.
Look again, closer to verify that you are not trying to install upside down.
There will be a combination of square/rounded pins that need to match up.

Psu: Evga 550w gd
It is a non-modular one so I cant have put them in
the opposite way.

That looks correct. I mean, I do see the extra bit on pin 8, but the shape is correct.

But the top right notch in your picture is not square like my gpu hole in my picture that I circled, is that okay and is it alright to plug it in?

I think your gpu 8 pin is defective.
The psu 8 pin looks correct.

You just need to push it deeper, harder… the harder the better if you know what I mean lol

A 'D' will fit into a square hole, but a Square pin will not fit into a 'D' hole. So even if the top row contains 2x square holes, the 'D' pin will still line up correctly.

And No, it shouldn't take any real amount of force to put the connector into the port, if it does, the connector is not the 6+2pin pcie, but the 8pin EPS, which you most definitely do not want to try forcing into a gpu port.
