6-core 3.5Ghz or 8-core 3.5Ghz?

I'm a new PC builder and I want to get the best bang for my buck.

I am choosing between two CPUs, each differently priced.

They both have 3.5 GHz, but one has 6 cores and the other has 8.

Should I go with the 8 core or 6 core?

Is it worth the extra $40?

if you want it to last les say 1 more year then get the 8 cores totally worth it, upcoming games q4 2013 and 2014 are using up to 8 cores like bf4, but tbh it depends on which games do you want to play, hope that helps

Your link show that the 8320 is $160, while the 6300 is $ 120, a 33% difference.
It depends on what you will be doing.
If you will be using as many cores/threads as you can, then the 8 core will be superior.
It has a passmark number of 8187, That compares to 6403 for the 6300.

If your usage is for gaming, then more than 2-3 cores is not useful, and you may as well pick the 6300.
But, at $120, the fx 4300 might be better.

No, most games use four cores. Some use six and some use two. Get the FX-6300 and put the extra money into the GPU. The only reason why either of the FX-8xxxs CPUs would help performance is if you are running a bunch of tasks at the same time while you are gaming.

If you are going for "future-proof" the FX-6300 will suit you well. That is what I use. You can easily OC it to 4.2 GHz. Just make sure to get a good after-market cooler.
