6 core xeon or i7 Extreme worth it over i7 4790K for 1080p?

is the extra price worth it for gaming and productivity at 1080p. I will only ever be doing gaming, general schoolwork ( quite intensive) and some video editing ( youtube PC gameplay clips).

Would like to know your thoughts

After i5 4690k, you will get diminishing returns in terms of preformace to price ratio. I5 is enough 90 percent of the time. As for school work, if you are doing rendering of any kind, i7 is the way to go. I don't see any reason to go past the performance level of 4930k unless you are doing professional work and actually getting paid to get it done fast.

No, the extreme series are like $800-1000+ and definitely aren't worth it. They basically exist ONLY for competition building to see who can build the most powerful systems. They don't have any real world applications that justify their costs really.

The i7 will be good for video editing and "school work" (although, "general schoolwork" should require more than a pentium, so i dunno what you're doing).

Well a pentium is the LOWEST end of the spectrum.

You wanted processors from the HIGHEST end of the spectrum.

You need a processor from the middle. An i5/i7.
One of these, depending on your motherboard.

i5 is all you need for gaming, and an i7 makes video editing easy/faster, but doesn't noticeably perform better while gaming.

hate to revive old threads BUT
if you plan on gaming at all don't use the integrated GPU on an i5/i7. Get a high end AMD or NVIDIA ( I personally prefer AMD) video card. For light gaming an r5 250x or above would be gread at just over 100$.
Also, I would go with the i5. best cost/performance ratio.
