So I've had this issue for a long time now and I can't find a solution for it.I installed additional 2 GB of RAM into my computer that already had 4 GB of RAM and it worked fine for a while. For some reason though I thought I'd mess with settings and I checked the Max Memory in the msconfig and since then it showed 6 GB installed but only 4.00 GB usable. The thing is,I unchecked the box but the problem stayed,I tried everything that was posted on the internet like: re seating my CPU,pulling the 4 GB out and leaving only 2 GB in and the 2 GB worked,I tried changing places,I tried flashing my motherboard, nothing worked.I went into the Resource Monitor() and I saw that 2 GB is reserved by the system so I need to know how to un reserve it.

(Didn't find a way to directly add files here so if I can do that somehow please tell me how.)

Solution
It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system. 32bit can only use 4gb of ram. A 64 bit operating system would use it all. I'm sorry I couldn't check your links since certain web pages are blocked for me at work, lol.
Are you on a 32 bit OS or 64 bit?
I wish that was the solution,no I am running 64 bit Windows 7.

I tried that already and I said it in the actual description of the problem.

I'm not that good with computers so you're going to have to explain, where do I find the model number and what is a mobo.CPU is AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE 3.6 GHz (Overclocked) I do have the latest BIOS and I only have two slots on my motherboard so they are in slot one and two.

Can get the free utility program CPU-Z off the internet - run it - check in the SPD tab and it will give you the model (part number) of the DRAM, (mobo is motherboard), check the motherboard tab in CPU-Z for the mobo part number

I tried it and it did reset everything but didn't help with the issue, when I turned the computer on,it showed the thing where I have the option to choose default settings or to run the setup and when I ran the setup in the BIOS it says 4096 mb of memory installed for some reason but in the system settings it says 6 GB installed 4.0 usable.

There is only the model, there is no part number and the model is 760GM.P23(FX) (MS-7641)

There are only two RAM slots on my motherboard and the RAM is in those two slots like I said in the main thread,it worked for a while and then it stopped so it isn't the issue in where I placed the RAM.

How do I do the DRAM in the BIOS thing?

Allright,I'll try that now.

Update:

In the advance settings I only foundD RAM timing and I can switch that between auto, linked and unlinked and It says that it's supposed to be 3-3-3-10 represented by CAS Latency (CL),tRCD tRP tRAS and I can set them to 9 CLK,so is that it and I couldn't find the place to switch anything to 1.5.

I just noticed,I changed places of the sticks and now it says that only 2.00 GB is usable and that 4096 mb is system reserved so is my slot broken somehow?

I tried reversing the sticks that's what got me to the 2 GB usable instead of 4,I do plan on reversing them because I need my 4 GB back. This problem is kind of old and between getting it and now,I changed the cooler from air to liquid and moved once and therefore I took the liquid cooler off just so it wouldn't get damaged in the move or something similar so it isn't the cooler. The slot recognizes the memory and it worked for some time so I don't think it is the slot but the motherboard still has the warranty so I might take it to the place where I bought it and they may replace it for me,I'm also thinking of upgrading the GPU,getting a better CPU and replacing that 2 GB with 4 GB so I'll just get the motherboard replaced too if I can't fix this.

Have you google those part numbers for each RAM?

This is a Transcend memory modules with 2GB 1600 CL 11 as the most important data I could found on the net as a datasheet (PDF) for this kind of memory.

From this one can see that you would need to either set your 2GB down to 1333MHz (from 1600Mhz) to be able to run at the same bandwidth.

If you get new memory, then buy at least a memory kit with a pair of confirmed and tested memory modules with a warranty.
