6 Gb/s SATA HDD on a 3 Gb/s Motherboard?

Hello, I am building my first pc and need to know if a 6 Gb/s SATA HDD will be compatible with a SATA 3 Gb/s motherboard? Thanks.

Backwards compatible, just limited to the SATA2 speed.
