6 pin in 8 pin slot

Theoretically, would a 6 pin connector work in an 8 pin slot (temporarily). Just bought a 1060 g1 gaming 6gb which requires an 8 pin connector but I only have 6 pins at the moment. Although my PSU is getting upgraded fairly soon so I was just wondering if there could be a chance I could run it on the 6 pins under medium loads. No adaptors or anything, looking for a quick answer no solutions please as I know what I can do. Just want an answer as to if it would work theoretically.
