6 pin to 8 pin adapter for gpu

I'm thinking about buying a new sapphire r9 280x toxic and it requires two 8 pin cables. My psu, a EVGA nex750 + 80 gold only came with a 6+2 pin and 6 pin. Is it ok to use a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter? I've been reading a couple of things and it seems like the answers are mixed. Could this damage my psu or gpu? Thanks.

Also if it didn't suffice, what would happen to the card? Would I be able to use it again or will it become damaged.
