6 to 8 pin connector adapter to an ATX_2x4

So I just built a computer that that I had to use extra adapter on. I have a 24 pin adapter and also a 6 to 8 pin adapter because the power supply that I am currently using the connectors were not long enough. I am using:

Case: Deepcool Kendomen ATX mid tower
Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3M
16 GB RAM
I7 3.4Ghz processor
no video card yet

The adapter for the 24 pin works (turn it on before I put on the main connector to see if it was power the motherboard) but when I use the 6 to 8 adapter on the ATX_2x4 my computer does nothing. I am not sure what I am doing wrong since the motherboard needs an 8 pin connector for it to work?

The 8 pin for a GPU and the 8 pin for a CPU are not compatible, and could cause sparks/fire/damage if you try to power it up with them wrongly connected.

I strongly suggest you get a decent PSU that has the proper cabling for your gear.

well I actually just bought it two month back. 680W that why I was trying to find a proper adapter so I can use it.

What brand/model is it?

Unfortunately, just because it says 680W doesn't mean it is.

It is a Kentek 680w atx 12v two fan PCI-E PSU

Pick up a decent 550W or so PSU from tier 1 or 2 of this list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Can't pick a solution becauseall of y'all helped me. The video is being ship will get it in a couple of days. Can a 550w PSU handle a XFX RADEON R7 4GB 256bit GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 video card

If it's a good 550W one, sure. 550W and a modern Intel CPU will let you run just about any single GPU.
