Hi all

i have a 6 year old gaming pc the stats are these:

phantom case
win 7 home 64bit
Intel Icore7 4770k 3.6ghz water cooled with Hydro Series H80i
z98 Sabertooth v1
16/32 gb ddr3 think there running at 2400hz?
2x 780ti overclocked
RMx Series™ RM1000x PSU
LG Blueray burner/reader
1TB hitachi 11,000 rpm
1TB Western Digital 11,000 rpm
air cooled by 3 140mm fans and 1 200mm fan on top

my gaming pc runs super slow like molasses sometime i have to reboot it several times to even get it to run as well had several blue screens crashes with almost no space on the hdd barely 100GB for each.

my gpu when playing games would be lucky to get low to med but the temp exceeded 100c then crashed both of them running like this for the past 2 years now, then when and bought 2 afterstock coolers but they wont fit with the case or the both or them in at the same time so right now only got 1 stock card in there barely running with out it crashing from the heat and no port fillers to fill in the slot from the other card gone now.

with the current state of this gaming pc what can be done? should i just throw it out and forget about gaming on pc forever then? sicne i dont play much pc game any more lucky if i play skyrim or civ 5 with ark online with i known is in alpha state would like to play newer games like fallout and such ect but i dont think my pc can handle game or any thing at all now it seem.

since i am not able to afford to upgrade since financial issues it seems what would you guys suggest that would be upgrade to or take actions on, on a side note i looked at the gpu and such here in canada but there cost to much if i were to just rebuild from scratch would cost 4-6k if were to get new new current tech of this year to next year if so.

also in the past had several hdd crashed on me and had to replace and had a gpu fry it self when trying to install it as well when i got it home the day i bought it talk about a $700 paper weight ><;

Any way any help would be great.

Sounds like the TIM on your GPU cooler needs replacing. It shouldn't be getting that hot, and that is likely the problem.

Some GPU coolers can be tricky to remove, but if you can manage that part without damaging any of the screws, it shouldn't be too hard to clean all contact surfaces with alcohol, apply TIM, and reassemble.

Hi thanks for the help but what do you mean by tims? and sadly ssd are still very expensive here in canada, what would you guys change out or replace in this system that i have?

thanks again.

TIM means thermal interface material, commonly known as thermal paste. It helps make a better thermal contact between the processor and it's heatsink to help shed heat more effectively.

Make sure you check for more obvious causes of excessive heat first though, like a GPU fan not working, or excessive dust buildup.

I wold not replace anything for a while, unless your system is really messed up. I doubt you need much more than a new Windows setup. For how much you will pay for new parts, and seeing how you have high end parts now, cost of an SSD should be nothing in comparison. I just took a look at the NCIX site, the prices adjusted for exchange rate are the same as in the US for SSDs, no reason not to get one, considering that is $100 vs $1,200 for a new system that would equal or be better than yours now.

You also said you have a "6 year old" system, the 780 Ti came out in 2013, as did the i7-4770K, that is 3 years with my math.

Hi all sry for the late replay rl stuff and all.

when i first got the pc it was 6 years pre-build and just upgraded it in 2014 with the new motherboard and the gpu and close loop water cooler and psu, also thanks for the info for the year's they were released since was not to sure when to say? so i'ved read what you all said and will try to save some cash for a ssd some time in the future when ever that going to be? would you guys think about replacing the gpu? since my 780ti just don't seem to cut it when playing any thing game wise that is out on the market now or in the future? with the system mostly being air cooled accept for the cpu i really dont think this pc is doing the job it meant to do? with me trying to do video ect editing and rendering just very frustrating since i just want to throw this pile of junk out the window how much i am sick of this pc any more with me being angry that i put 2k into this pc and still not getting the result i want out of this gaming pc?

There should not be any issues with gaming or rendering video with your CPU and 780 cards in SLI. You should do a clean Windows setup on the system and get a solid state drive.
