When im playing games i notice a lot of lag. When i checked task manager, i realized a somewhat high RAM usage. It is unclear what might be causing it.

Please help me identify what i can do to solve my RAM issue. For those wondering, I have 16GB RAM, but it still pisses me off to see that high number.

Solution
I would be more annoyed with the 47% Disk Activity. If you have only 60% of the RAM in use, there shouldn't be that much background disk activity. Background disk activity may cause tons of stutter.

If you have your swapfile set to automatic size, the first thing you may want to try to do is set it to a fixed size of something like 4GB to stop Windows from continuously resizing it.

1) Memory won't be the cause unless it's full.

2) Not sure why you are mad that it's using so much. You have Google Chrome open which is probably using several GB's. Windows learns to buffer data in there based on your usage pattern even if you aren't currently using it (so it's faster to open when you do).

You CAN have programs using too much memory (i.e. memory leak) but there's no indication that's what is going on here.

3) LAG?
We have no useful information to help.

What game?
What CPU, GPU, and Windows version do you have?

What SPECIFICALLY do you mean by lag?

We don't know if disk activity is constantly high. Also, most modern games rarely access the HDD/SSD unless they are pre-loading the game or level.

We need all the basic info before we start speculating.

Yeah thats pretty strange. I have 16gb and my system is using 24% with just a few chrome tabs. Tried seeing what happens when you force steam, chrome, skype and everything else? I doubt it'll be 24% but we could see what impact its having.

I have an i5 4690k, Asus Strix GTX 970 and Windows 10 (hate windows 10)

I am getting insanely bad frame lag

Have you checked the temps on the 970?

40degrees celcius

Under a gaming load? That looks like an idle temp.
