My birthday is in October and with the new windows 10 operating system arriving shortly im anxious for my birthday to roll around so i may invest in a new gaming computer. I am skeptical as i have never built my own gaming pc yet and i want to have the best parts i can get for the $600 price range as money is tight recently but i want this to last me for a good amount of time but i am not the best computer wizard when it comes to specifics so i was wondering if i may get some assistance with this task?

this pc is great for gaming and only 40 bucks higher than budget i recommend you save up for the total price of the build and it will last a while as well

With rebates my build doesn't cost much more. Secondly, the 280X is a much better performer than the 280. Go check out Digital Foundry's video of the GTX 960, R9 285, R9 280 and the R9 280X head to head in over 10 games. Then come back here and say the 280 has similar performance. Third, the 860K is a very good CPU. yes the i3 will have better per core performance, but with more and more games requiring 4 cores it is a very good choice for a budget CPU. I have one and I can tell you it is a good performer. The i3 will win in CPU intensive games, but 5-6 fps is negligible, especially when the 860K is cheaper and my build has an R9 280X, which the 860K won't bottlenck if overclocked.

5-6 fps yeah right i upgraded one of my pc from a 760k at 4.3ghz to a i3 4150 and it overall has increased the fps to 20-30fps even more in some games ex:borderlands 2 in the beatdown,, and games use threads i3 has 4 threads it still performs better than the 860k in gaming where the program uses all threads
the r9 280x is a waste of money you could buy the r9 280 and reach similar levels of performance on with a overclock

Listen your build is nice and I decided to give the OP an alternative. You have every right to dislike my build, but just say that and leave it there. Don't come out and say an i3 is worth 20-30fps vs an 860k because that's just hilarious lol. I see i3 performance every day with the same GPU that I have in my rig. That's why I'm laughing as I type this.

you just don't know it yet you try to defend a cpu while not evening knowing what the other is capable off you can believe what you want but the i3 single core performance is what to thank for those fps you can argue all day saying the 860k is better for gaming when it isn't and by watch i3 performance you mean a video that had no latency which is different and isn't a real life experience so you wouldn't know, have fun with your 860k ;)

I never said the 860K was better for gaming. I NEVER said that. I said the single core performance of the i3 is better no doubt about it, BUT for the money it is a good CPU and I used it in my build to make room for the 280x. Also the type of games a person plays will play a part. If you are an MMO guy those games are CPU intensive, go with the i3. I don't play that stuff. I play FPS games mostly and the 860k does well in those games. I get no latency whatsoever. I'm not doubting your improved experience. I'm just saying don't put the extra gravy on it. 20-30fps? Stop that man lol.

well im gonna rebuild this pc for my sister i will pm you benchmarks i will take just to show you, probably in 1-2 months the pc should be ready and just so you know that wasn't extra gravy when i said that i meant it but you don't have to take my word these benchmarks will speak for themselves :)

I3 vs 860k ??

5-10fps extra maybe on a select few games tops.
No way it blitzes a 760k at 4.3ghz either - unless you had other problems and were running with slow ram.

Pair an 860k with 2133mhz ram ,push it to 4.2ghz & its close to i5 4440/4460 levels performance wise.

No fanboyism here - they're both good CPU's ,the 860k is certainly better value though & allows the budget for a better GPU.

the build was new at the time and didn't have any problems ram was 1866 2x16GB on a Ga-f2a88x-up4 running a gtx 960 overclocked by 130mhz core and 300mhz on memory
