I have had my computer built since April. It was a project more then anything and when I built it, I had no intention to play games. Now I want to play games such as Crysis (before crysis 2 comes out), bfbc2, stalker, starcraft 2, and other games. Right now my pc specs are:

HP w2207h (1600x1050) - plan to upgrade to 1900x1200 very soon
i5-750 @ 2.66
wd 1tb caviar black hdd
2x2gb g. skill ddr3 1600
gigabyte-p55a-ud3 mobo
650w hx series corsair psu
antec 902 case
dvd/cd drive

i am wondering if i should wait for the 6000 series gpu's or go ahead and buy a 5850. i am in dire need of one, as my current video card is a 8400 gs. i can hardly play any of todays games at low settings with low fps. i just dont want to regret buying a 5000 series card, when 6000 series cards are hitting the shelves in a month or two. will the 5850's take a price plunge when the 6000's come out? have they already gone down in price? should i wait for the 6000's, or buy a 5850? will the 6000's be even available when they release? is there a preformance leap from the 5000s and 6000s?

you wont benefit a lot by using 6000 card to compare with 5850. 6000 card only improve tessletation a lot but not regular 3D. one big reason AMD rush to delivery 6000 series is because the tessletation function is real bad on their 58xx series. with tessletation enable 5850's performance is 30% lower than GTX460. however tessletation is a main feature from DX11 which can only be used in win7. for next few year we wont see any game company make game for DX11 only since most pc still are xp or vista. so DX9 are still mainstream with DX10. after 3 years you can find other cheap better card anyway. for now if I was you, go get a GTX 460 which can drive all game well, after 1 year buy another one to sli if some crazy game worse than FFXIV out. 6000 card wont be on the street before Nov and price is unknown.

We have not seen the 6770 benchmarks yanje03, I am quite certain they will out perform a GTX 460. They are a 2nd generation DX 11 card. The 6000 cards are supposedly going to be available for purchase October 25, that is not a long time.

You answered your own question, didn't you?
"only be used in win7."

Honestly, I would have waited myself, but I bought a 5770 and I was relatively happy with it. This was a week or two before the 460 came out, and seeing it's performance I wanted to take my card back and get the 460 instead. Didn't, whatever.
So truth is, get a cheap substitute; as long as it can give you decent performance in games then it should be alright.
