Hello! My system (and some other files, but these are tiny in size) partition contains 118GB of data and out of those only about 55GB are actual files that can be opened. I realise that system has a lot of internal files but come on, 60GB? Is there any way to reduce the size?
OS: Windows 7 Proffesional 64bit

Solution
I would suggest running windows Disk Cleanup tool, selecting the "Clean system files" option.

Also the very popular program CCleaner does a very good job with deleting old files:

If your system is in solid working order, do your anti-virus/malware scans, set a new restore point point and run a deep "Disk Clean-up" to remove shadow copies and old restore points ...

If you have not done so in the past, I suspect this will free up a great deal of the free space you feel you have lost.

^^ Do This.
