60hz, 144hz, G-Sync: What am I buying?

I am a converting console gamer, and a workstation PC user.
Novice to the PC gaming world, is the extra $300+ for a G-sync worth it?
It isn't in my budget, YET, so I will have to be patient no matter your answers.

My build is as follows:
MoBo: Gigabyte z170 UD5
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070
Memory: DDR4 3000 (& I will up to 3200 if there is a sale when I purchase.)

Do you think a 60Hz monitor is a slap in the face to my 1070 GPU?
What is the downside to a 60hz monitor in the long-run?
Will a 60hz monitor create any sort of "bottle-neck."
Will I utilize 60hz constantly on the 60hz monitor? (Assuming my GPU should be able to do so.)
In benchmarks, most people are averaging 60-90 FPS anyway, so is the 144hz really worth the money?

Thanks in advance!

your GTX1070 is definitely capable of running games higher than 60FPS on 1440p.
it's kind of difficult to recommend Gsync to you since you have been playing with 60Hz + Vsync with consoles, but I'm guessing if you are converting to PC gaming is because you are looking for something more.

for 1080p 60Hz it is a slap in the face for a 1070 (you would be better off with a GTX1060)
for 1440p 60Hz it won't be a slap in the face and you will be using fast sync so you won't suffer any tearing as long as you are at 60Hz all of the time.
for 1440p 144Hz you will feel smooth gameplay with shooters like Overwatch, CS:GO and Battlefield, but when you play a AAAtitle you will be having a different FPS variation, so without Gsync you will get...

for 1440p/144Hz/Gsync this seems to be the holy grail for gaming at the moment but it is quite expensive. I can't honestly recommend spending extra $300 just for Gsync, but if that money also includes a 144Hz and a nice IPS screen, then it is totally worth it. The screen will outlast your gaming rig and maybe even the next. so it is not a bad investment, I prefer spending more on a screen than a GPU since you will also enjoy it outside of gaming during regular use.
