I just found out. Farcry is going to be releasing a 64 bit version soon. I signed up to get news about it.

Will I experiense the difference 64 bit does with a Nforce chipset?

When the 64 bit is going to be realesed will I also need a 64 bit OS to experiense the differense?

Good question and unfortunately I do not have the answer. I expect you will need the 64bit OS though, but would love to hear it from someone in the know.

fine laugh all you want. I'll go find out somewhere else.

I'm going to start a poll and ask:

Do you guys like reading for fun?

I guess there's going to be alot more that say "yes".

My answer is hell no

Why can't someone just say "yes" or "no"? I'm going to start calling you guys all geeks. If you help me I won't. I asked nicely and look what happens.

I will problebly have to force myself to read.

In reply to your question, no. A pentium 4 is a processor. A chipset is like an 875p, or for AMD, an Nforce 2. Chipsets are built into the motherboard. Sorry for the other forumers lack of decency, not everyone knows everything.

ho boy.. we got a live one on our hands boys!

no.. all modern home computer processors are 32bit, except for AMD's newest release which is the Athlon64. theres a few chipsets out right now for the A64, but thats up to you to find out because im not going to repeat something that is 5 mouse clicks away for you because theres TONS of reviews of the A64 because its a new product

nforce2 is for regular Athlons, and like i said they are 32bit.

nforce 2 is for athlons? He didn't say nforce2, he said nforce, so he is speaking of the nforce3, which is in fact for the Athlon 64. In fact, they just came out with a revision for it called the pro 250 I believe and it is pretty good.

This is confusing. I just want the most up to date nforce series that plays in 64 bit. So I can play FarCry in 64 bit. Witch one is it?

u want a mobo with an nforce3 chipset only if your going to use an A64 though

128mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (430/385)

Nforce 2= Athlon XP chipset
Nforce 3= Ok Athlon 64 chipset
Nforce 3 250=good Athlon 64 chipset

These are my specs now:

P4 1.60GHZ
9700 pro (AA and AF set to application preferance, it's not overclocked)
audigy 2 zs platinum pro
768 mb of ram

I'm playing FarCry with all graphic options set to very high, water set to ultra high. My framerate slows down. So I decided to set everything in graphics to medium, water I left it to ultra high. Now my framerate is fater, BUT WHY?

I have a good graphic card right? Is it my cpu or my ram causing slowdowns when graphics are all set to very high, water ultra high?

I don't remember if I asked this already. But is anyone here with a rig playing this game with AA, AF, graphics, sound set to max and with framerate that doesn't slow down and affect gameplay?

I would agree, I think it is your CPU. But before you run off and grab yourself a shiny new Athlon64 I think you need to go away and do a lot more research.
A computer is a big investment so you need to know what is on offer and what you want.

Now you seem to want an Athlon64, this is a great CPU for playing games but the 64bit extensions are USELESS at the moment. Even when Windows XP64 is released, it is debatable how much of a difference the 64bit extensions will make.

You will need to buy a new motherboard to support your new CPU, and possibly new RAM. If you want the Athlon64 this will be an expensive upgrade.

"64bit extensions are USELESS at the moment."

What do you mean USELESS? There's going to be a 64 bit version of FarCry soon.

It won't make a difference you say?

And you think its going to perform much better than the 32bit version? Wont it need windows XP64? (im not sure).

I'm going to contact the game developpers because I don't think anyone here knows.

I pretty sure it's going to make a difference though. The framerate will be faster. Why would they make a 64 bit version then if it doesn't make a difference?

The same reason they introduced the geforce 4200ti's wuith AGP 8x support...because its good marketing.
It might make a bit of a differenc but I doubt its gonna push your frame rates through the roof. A better graphics card would make more of a difference I think.

Are you sure the 8x geforce4 TI's weren't just marketing, I thought they were also better cards.

You can see the benchmarks for yourself on this site, I think the difference in speed equates to about .5%...worth it? Methinks not.

64 MB GeForce4 Ti4200 = 8.0 GB/s memory bandwidth
128 MB GeForce4 Ti4200 = 7.1 GB/s memory bandwidth
64 MB GeForce4 Ti4200-8x = 8.0 GB/s memory bandwidth
128 MB GeForce4 Ti4200-8x = 8.0 GB/s memory bandwidth

128 MB GeForce4 Ti4200-8x was definately a better card, more than just marketing
