Has anyone run the 64 bit beta version of windows yet on a AMD 64 bit
processor with UT? I know UT is not multiprocessor capable but I was
wondering if it ran and how well. Microsoft have recommended home users
stay with 32 bit XP until Longhorn is released.

Does anyone have thoughts or experience?

I ran it Vis as a dual boot setup. It was nice in theory but a pain in the
ass to use daily. Not near enough stuff is set up to run in 64 bit. Visually
it's pretty stunning, and I could tell it was chugging my system a bit more
than standard XP, but there's probably a lot of final touches that still are
being done. This will all change when the 64 bit OS gets formally released,
I'm sure. For now there's just too much driver shuffling and set-up to make
it manageable. I felt like I was using Linux :)

Can't wait for the 64 bit UT though!!!

Most reviews/previews have shown games run slower on windows 64 than on 32
bit windows. The only advantage 64bit gives is extra memory addressing. Do
you use over 4gb of ram? ;o)

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just kicking around a few ideas for a
new dream system and wondered how far down the 64 bit road it is was
sensible to go. I will probably wait till the end of the year when
hopefully most of the bugs have been ironed out. Mmmmmm 64 bit UT ooohh
the mind fair spinns :-O

TV game consoles are coming a long way fast, and soon will make it far less
desirable to spend a few thousand dollars on a PC to do high end gaming,
only to have the PC quickly be outdated. No, with high definition
television and game consoles equipped to have a broadband link to the
internet for multiplayer mode, each player is equal with the other with
respect to hardware (internet connection may play a minor role, but it does
so with PC-based gaming as well). No more advantage by the spoiled brat who
has daddy buy a $3,000 Alienware system, so he can have the edge on the next
guy who has made a PC purchase that just fits a busy budget. As HD
televisions become ubiquitous, and at or less cost than a high end PC, that
seems to be the way to go. I guess this will cause PCs to be very
reasonably priced though in the long run.

So you don't think the same applies to cheap TVs versus large,
expensive HD TVs?

Besides, I've never seen a good FPS on a console - at least not s good
as on a PC.

yah, me too. even MSxboxII will not have a 1980x1080 resolution. But
HD-resolution rulez. have u satellite dvb television? test the astra
testing channel with the sony demo. that really rocks the house. and it
will be years that one can buy a screen under 2000 Euros.
