Hey, upgrading from a GTX 1080 to a RTX 3080

Im worrying that my PSU isnt enough for it though. Would u recommend upgrading that too?

Current Specs:
i7 11700k
GTX 1080
16gb RAM 3000Mhz
250GB SSD
1TB HDD
650W Seasonic Focus Plus Gold

Thank you

I would yes. Transient spikes is an issue with 3000 series and Seasonic Focus, even 1000w models, have sensory issues tripping over current protection causing sudden reboots from fluctuating gpu clocks. So it's not always about full load, it's the current getting up to that point that oct trip for that Seasonic model of psu. There is a workaround cutting the sensor wire but that's only what I've read. 650w isn't enough really even without the issue with sensors. With your processor + 3080 minimum id put in at least 850w. Im running 11700k (no oc) 3080ti with Corsair Rm850x just fine.

If you change psus, remember that any modular cable needs to be replaced also. Convenience was never a thing between different psu brands and models. Wish it were. Pinouts don't follow industry standards and +/- pin locations can vary leading to potential shorts if reuse cables not meant for the particular unit in use.

Yeah I'm aware of that. What PSU would u recommend? I was looking at the Corsair RM1000x.

I have been running a Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC originally paired with a 3700X and then a 5800X3D on a Seasonic 650w Prime Ultra Platinum since the 3080 launched. I’ve not had any issues. I also have a 360mm AIO, 3x140mm fans and 6 LED strips. I’ve not had any problems so far.

I already had this setup running a 2080S and just swapped in the 3080. If I was buying new I’d get a 750/850w just because I can. I know they are not terribly accurate and cannot measure spikes but according to my smart plug it takes around 450w while gaming and 550w when stress testing.
