Duhh.. they just don't work. ohh yeah.. you have to can.. just add more ram and cpu's to add the compatibility pac.. gosh that does not even work.. such a waste.[/citation]

Windows XP is a resource pig compared to windows 95 - your point is?

Your one of those tools, when windows 8 (whatever its going to be called) your going to be all "no windows 7 is more stable and lighter and better" bla bla THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY NEW MAJOR WINDOWS RELEASE.

it happens with many new releases but windows xp has had it the longest. with those older OS, users switched for the most part, long before support for the old OS ended because hardware caught up with the new OS and exceeded the old one.
Try running windows 98 on a core i7 system and 4GB memory, it wont even boot unless you can greatly reduce the amount of memory you have installed, use ide drives or drives in ide mode and use only 1 CPU core. Hardware has exceeded those OS, but the current hardware that is widely used has not exceeded windows xp, this is why it is lasting so long, as soon as hardware exceeded the OS (main stream hardware and not the insanely expensive stuff that require you to own your own oil company in order to fund your overkill gaming rig. Windows 2000 was good but it was never really popular as compared to windows 98 at the time, and most people with windows 98 refused to get windows xp because it was a major resource hog. But soon after, new hardware came out that exceeded the limits of older OS and people rapidly switched to windows xp.

Well it is stupid MS's fault, since they don't provide a way to upgrade (instead of replace) XP -- who wants the huge hassle and uncertainty of wiping a system and replacing the OS? Windows 7 is great, but the dummies at MS seem to have lost the ability to understand how to market things effectively.

Morons don't get it that XP holdouts will happily upgrade if they eliminate the loss of functionality in tons of Windows 7 components, functionality present in previous versions of Windows. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_7 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_Vista. They are merely swapping features. Each new version of Windows is a gamble, add some, lose some. This was not a problem before Vista. Something breaks and they drop it due to lack of time. Or they purposefully dumb down it so much that all user customization is lost.

[citation][nom]bdonedge[/nom]I don't understand why people consciously use XP over 7. 7 is better in every single way[/citation]

My Soundblaster Platinum EX applications won't work on Windows 7, I have other programs that does not work properly on windows 7. So how is that better than XP? Microsoft want me spent money on new software?

[citation][nom]TA152H[/nom]Windows 2000 was used for a long time in corporations, because they recognized it was better than Windows XP, and didn't want to change it. They are very similar, just that XP is slower. Your remarks about versatility and such are weird for a technical forum, since they mean nothing. There's nothing XP can do that 2000 can't, or vice-versa. XP is just slower, and no amount of modding can change that. XP isn't horrible, by any means, it's just a worse version of Windows 2000. It doesn't do anything different, it just does everything slower and in a more irritating way. The only reason XP became so overwhelming popular is because it was around for so long, and then was replaced by a really bad operating system that was significantly different. Don't forget when XP came out, at least at first, it was widely regarded as bloatware, and there was a lot of resistance to it. Companies stayed away for a long time, but then Microsoft pulled support for Win 2K, and companies moved. Although, Win 2K is still used in some, mainly because it's better. The same will happen for XP. When Microsoft pulls support, companies will abandon it. Does anyone really need Vista or 7? Probably not, just like no one needed XP, but when Microsoft pulls support, and it gets harder to buy machines with it, 7 or whatever comes after it will take the market. It doesn't have to be better, it just has to be what's being sold on PCs and supported by Microsoft, to take over the market. XP had that distinction for a long time, that's why it's popular. Resistance to new operating systems has almost always been the case, except for Windows 98 replacing Windows 95, and Windows 2000 replacing Windows NT 4.0.[/citation]

windows 2000 never had the popularity that windows xp has. do you know why ? its simple because xp is simply better in everything (or equal ) to w2000. your w2000 fanbyoism is simply childish. win2000 had huge compatibility issues at launch especially with consumer products like games, multimedia, etc. who wants that ? its rubbish? Xp destroyed w2000 becaue it was much better, unlike w2000 everyting worked in CP. simple as that.

Thats because creative as a company is pathetic

creative has a history of crappy drivers but their hardware is good.

Windows xp was better at dealing with incompetent companies, Windows 7 is much less able to handle bad drivers, (most will prevent windows from booting while xp will just skip over them if they give any error. (for example if you use a very unstable but still functional overclock, windows xp can boot to desktop while windows 7 will crash when it encounters trouble loading drivers).

Had my first taste of Win7 tonight and I'm not bowled over. Garish (see Apple for how to do it). As one who has always stripped XP back to look like Windows 98, I found myself getting a bit queasy with 7's decor.

Had a go at networking existing XP machines to Win7 machine -- what appear to be more pointless changes (though I'll reserve judgement) result, could not connect. I'm hoping that once I "get it" I'll see that the changes are the great leap into something less than the bonkers user-hostile nonsense that's current Windows networking.

Had to search for Windows Explorer and that seems to have changed.
If I was running a business with staff to retrain I'd start wondering about alternatives to Microsoft.

When you buy a new computer now Windows 7 is included unless it’s a server or Mac where it comes with its own. No way of avoiding this operating software whether we like it or not; so this will become our new standard much like the old XP and the one after this one, but until that time arrive my old PC will always have Windows XP where it has better support for my old hardware and software, and my new computer and future computers will have new OS where drivers are and software’s are optimized for it.

I hope Microsoft will keep updating Windows 7 to work with our old beloved software and I wish that Linux OS will catch up as well with its hardware and software support to where a dual boot of the two OS is a must. I know it’s a wishful thinking and it’s going to be a long while before that might happen but who knows?

XP is the BEST for the moment, faster, better 32/64 bit OS, better than vista, better than win7, so why bother changing it ?
when MS get something real good out here, then we will convert, but not now!

...and yes i know you want to suck more money, but it aint gonna happen, so chill out! :)

My computer is running is running fine with xp M/S when i have to go away
from xp i am hoping that ubuntu, madriva or opensuse will be ready by then
yes microsoft bullies when i am forced to go away from windows i will be staying away from windows except xp.
