Hello

I have one 660 ti card and will be buying another one to run in sli mode. When I got this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-256-061&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=4#scrollFullInfo

I thought it would be powerfull enough for sli but after a few google searches some people say that 500W is not enough, they recommend at least 600w then other peoplesay 450w should be enough because 1 card only draws about 130 watts. I'm confused. I didn't go for 700w PSU because my system doesn't need that much power and most of it would be wasted ($$$).

Now I feel like a moron because I wasted $60 on a 500w PSU trying to save on electricity. Please tell me that 500w should be ok. Thanks

Seems like a cost cutting move (poorly thought out by Corsair),
8 molex (peripheral) and only 2 PCI-E doesn't make a whole lotta sense for
a unit marketed as professional.

If you are still interested in a quality unit, consider this:

nets to $80 after mir & 15% promo and is an outstanding psu.

Hi - I don't think it'll work. It might initially, but I think you're sking for trouble.
Realhardtech suggests 620w for a sys with 2 660ti's in SLI, you
might get by with a little less. You are also 2 pci-e connectors short,
you need 4 for the 2 cards & that psu has 2. If you had enough power
then using molex to pci-e adapters would be ok.

So even if I had enough power it wouldn't work because I'm two connectors short. Fantastic. I'll see if I can return the silverstone one an maybe get Corsair HX650, which I should have bought I'm the first place. $60 +$100 in PSU alone lolololo

Correct - he needs 620w, & I said 650 in 2nd post because if you got to buy
a new PSU & you know you need 4 pci-e connectors then it makes sense
to purch a psu with 4. A lot of 650's have 4, but almost no 620's have 4,
that's why I would get & suggest a 650 in this instance.

Fair enough.

The recently discontinued CMPSU-650HX model has four (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Its new replacement model, the HX650 ( SKU# 75-001217 / CP-9020030 ), only has two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

So make sure you're purchasing the model you need/want.

Hey can you check the item website on newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012#top

On "overview" almost reaching the end of the page it says Sli ready with 4 pcie connectors and above that there is table with all connector types and it says it has 4. Did they mistake the old model for the new one ?

Notice how it states "HardwareHeaven Gold Award", HH reviewed the discontinued model, 3 years ago
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/891/pg1/corsair-hx650w-power-supply-introduction-packaging.html

Specs from the source
http://www.corsair.com/en/power-supply-units/hx-series-power-supply-units/hx-series-hx650-power-supply-650-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-modular-psu.html

Newegg has to update their product descriptions I almost bought this thing thinking it had four pci connectors. On 2 different places they state that it has 4. and if the old model was reviewed and given a gold award 3 years ago how can they place the gold award in the new model????

It's still an HX650 and marketing execs are swine ?

Solution

If you look in Newegg's Image Gallery for that PSU you will see an image for the specifications label that shows MODEL: 75-001217 which is definitely the new model with only two PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Another way of determining which version they're selling is to look at the +12 Volt continuous current rating. The new model has 54 Amps and the previous model only has 52 Amps.

Ended up getting this one. With all the discounts it came down to $70ish.
Thanks everyone for comments/ help.
