I have a gigabyte 6600gtvp. I swapped out the old passive heatsink and put a zalaman cooler on with artic silver. It idles around 50 C and gets to 65 C max. The temperatures in my room are about sub 30C (about 70F). Would it be safe to overclock the card and to what speeds are stable. The card came stock as standard 500mHz and the memory is 1100mHz. Thanks

Only way to know is to try. Do it in small increments and look for artifacts, screen lines or blockiness, freezing, etc. When you reach that level, back it off by one or two and you found your stable overclock. I would not reccommend leaving it at that speed, only kick it up to play a game or benchmark. Remember: OC'ing a CPU and video card to their limits together can make it harder. Do one or the other for best results. Also lock your bus speed if you can in the BIOS.

If you continue to do what you have always done, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.

Only overclock the 3D speeds. That way it will only run at your overclock when running a 3D app (a Game)

There is no need to manually apply the o/c everytime you play a game.
