667 or 800 DD2 for Core 2 Duo @ 1333?

I'm purchasing a new PC (I would rather build my own but don't have the time.) The MB chipset is G33 (don't know the brand). Processor options are E4400 (2.0@800) or E6557 (2.3@1333). I selected the E6557, but now the only RAM options are 667 FSB. Will this work? I was thinking of going with the lowest mem option (1G@667), and then upgrading myself with 2G@800. Does this sound like a good plan?

thx, Don

BTW, this is a Dell. They said the MB supports 800/1066/1333 FSB. I'm not planning on any overclocking (not sure that the BIOS would allow it anyway), but just want the ideal RAM for the CPU.

ideal ram is 800 fsb.
looks like dell is putting one over on you.
build it yourself and save thei 20% markup.
have you read about their recent earnings reports? they made that cash from you.

Dell is putting one over on me how? In the saying what FSB the MB supports? In all it doesn't seem like a bad deal - I found a $350 coupon code I'm using. With busy schedule and 2 small kids at home I just don't have the time now to build my own system. I don't play games, just looking for a basic PC for office apps, music, and maybe some photo/video editing.

Actually, it will work...just barely.

DDR stands for "Double Data Rate." Divide the number by 2 and you have the true FSB that is set in the BIOS.

Intel chips from the P4s into the Core 2 CPUs have quad pumped FSBs. Divide that number by 4 and you have the true FSB that is set in the BIOS.

In this case, 667 / 2 is roughly 333. 1333 / 4 is roughly 333.

You won't be able to overclock your CPU without better RAM.

Right, so by getting the minimum 1G@667 built in the system and then replacing with my own 2G@800, I'm doing the right thing. Newegg has

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA804

$109 w/$40 rebate, which is close to what Dell charges for 2G@667 upgrade.

Yes that will be your best deal instead of buying it all from dell. Just dont forget to take out the Dell ram and you should be good.
