6670 not detected

I just put together this system about 3 hours ago. Everything works except the 6670. The gfx card is running since the fans are spinning but its not detected by Windows or any application such as CPU-Z and the like. Its pretty much just sucking juice without doing its job.

My specs are:

CPU: i3-2100
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H67M-D2-B3
RAM; Mushkin Silverline 4GB
Gfx: MSI 6670
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 400W 80+ Bronze

On the 6670 box it states 400W or greater PSU. This is a HTPC running a 65W dual core, 4GB RAM, 1 HDD, 1 BluRay drive, and a single case fan. 400W should be plenty enough.

I tried installing drivers but nothing happened. Not sure what to do. Please help.

Connect the monitor/TV you are using to the I/O on the video card, NOT on your motherboard's own graphics I/O.

I never called you one, although I find your usage of the term offensive.

Do you have any display cables connected to your motherboard at all? Because if not, your computer literally MUST be using the GPU, not the motherboard graphics, no matter what software is telling you.

Chances are you simply don't have the drivers properly installed, and so it detects the GPU as a 'generic display adapter'.

Run Driver Sweeper to make sure your drivers are completely removed, then try to install this.

EDIT AGAIN: Okay, no direct link. So again, http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx , install the top download (Catalyst Software Suite) ONLY.

I'll give that a go. I ran and installed the full suite once the OS was installed but nothing happened. I'll do as you have written and hope that it works. However, I did this before and it didn't work.

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I suppose it's worth a shot... go in the BIOS and make sure that the onboard graphics are disabled. Maybe that's the issue.

Yeah it sucks. Not much I can do. I looked at the BIOS earlier as I thought the same thing. There is an option to disable onboard VGA if GPU is in PEG and there is always enable. I tried both settings already. Very aggravating!

I had a similar problem as what you're describing. My build is:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 sp 1
4 GB DDR3 RAM
90 GB OCZ SATAII w/ AHCI
AMD Athlon II x4 640
MSI MS7595 mobo
Antec 400C 400 Watts PSU

I had been using the integrated mobo Radeon HD 4250 prior to purchasing the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 pcie x16 1GB GDDR5 card.

Once I installed the card, I ran into a similar problem. The new card wasn't detected correctly and in device mgr, it was showing the card as Standard VGA. When trying to install a driver, Windows knew it was a 6600 but stated the drivers I wanted to install where not valid or that I needed to install the correct Radeon hardware (even though I was using the driver included on the Sapphire CD driver. I even tried AMD's freshly downloaded Catalyst 10.3 driver, and MS auto detected driver). Weird I thought.

How I fixed my problem was I:

1) uninstalled any old video drivers

2) Boot into Safe Mode (the next steps 3, 4, & 5 are in done in Safe Mode)

3) Ran the Registry Cleaner feature of Ccleaner (freeware)

4) Deleted by "fixing" any video-related entries that Ccleaner found

5) While still in Safe Mode, I installed the drivers from Sapphire's CD, this time it worked recognizing the new card as a Radeon 6600.

6) Rebooted, and logged in (with an Administrator account, at this point Windows should already recognize the new HD 6670 card because of step 5).

7) Downloaded and installed the latest AMD Catalyst 10.3 drivers (but CCC is reporting the version as 10.4?? Oh well it works now)
