670 vs 480

right now I have a gtx 480, its loud, runs hot, and runs up the electrical bill, I have a guy that is interested in buying it for $200. is a 670 an upgrade? I know the 570 has about the same performance as a 480 but its hard to find benches that compare a 670 with a 480, want to make sure its a worthy investment and I wont be paying $250 for nothing

The 670 is about 30% faster than the 480 while using much less power and running much quieter/cooler.

Cheaper solution, plus gives room for some nice overclocking.

If i was in the mist to upgrade now... it would be a GTX 670 or 690. :p

New cooler is the cheapest solution, and large gains are to be had with overclocking a 480.

True but it still won't take away the extra $ for the electric bill.

If he sells his 480 for $200 and spends another $200 for a 670 he will have like a 40%+ boost from a 480 not to mention driver updates which will further improve the 670.

yeah man, I'd go 670 its only going to improve with the drivers,the only thing though is if you want to go sli you will be bottlenecked by your mobo's bus speeds for the cards

Christ just looking at that review reminds of the 5870 vs 480 back a couple of years...they were neck and neck...now look at what driver support does.....

This is why I usually go Nvidia:( Not to start anything, I don't mean it that way, I'm just really amazed I use to say the opposite back in the 9800 XT days:p

Lets hope that Nvidia will release some mature drivers soon:D, the last release didn't have anything for the 670 GTX :(

sounds like im getting a 670, thanks for the replys, does it really perform better than a 580 and with an OC will beat a reference 680?

sweet. which card should i get? i normally buy asus products but their 670 cards arent as highly rated as i would like. thinking about evga as they typically make a reliable product but i would like dual fans like a twin frozr to keep it cool with a OC

If you're thinkg about EVGA then get a EVGA GTX 670 FTW: Uses the same PCB and cooler as the GTX 680 and has GTX 680 performance straight out of the box for £100+ less.

The ASUS GTX670 DIRECT CUII TOP is a pretty sweet card and is the card I'd go for if I wanted a non reference card.

Fermi is the #1 Folding GPU and if you do not know what Folding is then go learn it.
I know you will have respect for it.

also it still ranks behind only the GTX 680/670 HD 7970/7950 so that makes it still a gaming beast as well.
beats the HD 7870.

so go Google and try that again..

P.S.
and the GTX 580 rig is not even in my gaming unit, just a daily usage unit....
I run SLi N560GTX-Ti Hawks that outperform a GTX 680 for most of my gaming.

Well since they don't make Gtx 580's anymore its kinda obsolete, but it's still a good graphics card by all means theres no need to start hating sheesh :??:

I never said it was a bad card...

yeah, looks like they finally got there cooling system down. id get a zotac amp! if it was sold in the US but it doesnt appear to be sold here yet

after a gpu upgrade i am most likely going to go m-atx or itx, ive been going to lan parties more often lately and my mid tower is a bit difficult to transport
