As the title suggests I found a deal on Kijiji for a 6700k with a Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard and 16GB DDR4 ram for $500 CAD which is about ~$380 USD. I'm currently running a 3700k with 16GB of ram. Is it worth the upgrade?

I actually have the EXACT configuration you have outlined, 6700k@4.6Ghz, Hero VIII and 16GB DDR4 3000mhz Trident-Z memory, and that Ryzen build will outperform it in just about everything.

But that is a pretty good setup, and I'm still not unhappy with the performance I get, so if you are willing to overclock it's still a viable configuration.

Problem is, it has no upgrade path while the Ryzen system does all the way through 2021. Given a higher performing Ryzen 7 CPU like the 2700x, the difference in performance would be even greater.
