Hi i was wondering what a person can expect for temps with a i7 6700k with a coolermaster maker 8 cooler. I have the cpu slightly overlocked via ai suite. Its running at 4.3 ghz and have ran prime95 with real temp. the core temps look like they get pretty warm. I have seen other posts not to use prime 95 because of the unrealistic temps. my temps on prime 95 were 77c on the first core at the peak. The others were lower by a few degress. After the slight overclock i saw them peak to almost 85c and i started to question my cooler install. I used a pea sized drop of coolermaster paste on the cpu when installing instead of using arctic silver i ordered. Wasn't sure if the past brand mattered or not. Any insight is appreciated.

I use P95 specifically FOR the unrealistic temps. It's a torture test, designed to make the perfect storm, worst-case scenario for your cpu. If it can handle that, nothing else will ever make it sweat.

As for skylake temps, you want it to stay below 75. 76 and up usually means you need better cooling.

So do you think I should maybe reapply thermalpaste and give it a go again? For this size of an air cooler with a push pull fan setup you think it would run a bit cooler. I did play insurgency on maxed settings last night and my CPU temps hung out around 45-50c with 50% load. It's my first build so I'm OCD about this and makin it run great.

I took it off and yes it was little much on there. Cleaned it up good then used some arctic silver 5 on it. Seems to be a little more stable for temps now and i would assume it gets better after the arctic silver breaks in. Played arma 3 on ultra and it worked nice thanks all for the replies!
