Hi all!,

I am in process of figuring out everything I am going to buy for my first build. I have decided to buy an EVGA 04G-P4-2686-KR GeForce GTX 680 w/ Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

But my question is will the diference between the 2gb and the 4gb version give me a noticable performance increase? I am not quit sure what the GPU memory does. If anyone has any feedback for me, that would be greatly appreciated.

To all the people on this forum I just wanted to say how much i greatly appreciate everyones expertise and feedback i have gotten. This forum has helped me more that i ever could have imagined going into this project.

JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT IS A PART OF THIS GREAT COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE HELPING EACHOTHER OUT!!!!!!!!

could you take a look at my post http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/354701-31-first-build-feedback and see if you think this would be a good setup? I dont really understand what causes a bottleneck and would be highly disappointed if my GPU caused some sort of problem i plan on getting the 4 gb edition.

your getting a x77 motherboard which has a limited number pci-e lanes to the cpu, the x79 mobo/chipset has more pci-e lanes. So when SLI/Crossfire a graphics card you are using those lanes, bottlenecking is when you are maxing out the data transfer from the graphics cards to the cpu. With more lanes to the cpu the bottleneck is less lickly. So when you SLI or Crossfire on a x77 mobo you may max out the amount of data being sent to and from the cpu and graphics card. Where as on a x79 mobo you can SLI 3-4 way before you max out the lanes/data going from and to the cpu to the graphics card.

This is concerning the link between the Motherboard and the Graphics Cards, please realize that I tryed to put this in lamins term as much as possible.
