The goal here is to survive for as long as possible with everything. I'm talking about 5+ years for my graphics card. Don't worry, I'll upgrade the rest too (R5 7600+b650+DDR5 5600 ram)
Both the 7700XT as well as the 6800 cost about the same price and have same performances. Difference is, 7700xt is obviously new and the 6800 is an older card.
When we talk about survivability, 6800 has 16gb of vram but does that matter? Or does new architecture (RDNA3) like the 7700xt as well as some features matter? 7700xt has also got better ray tracing but ray tracing doesn't matter as much maybe...
Question is which one should I take if I want it to survive for as long as possible?

Specs
i7 6700 non k (2015)
Z170 gaming a msi (2015)
16gb ram ddr4 2100 speed (2015)
Arctic cooler 34r
1tb, ssd (for games) (2022), spare 1,5tb hdd (2012 but not in use anymore), 240gb ssd (for windows) (2015)
XFX rx590 8gb VRAM (downvolted) (2018)
Corsair rmx 750w 2021 (2022)
Fractal design meshify 2 (2022)
Display: LG 24GM79G 24inch 1080p 144hz (2019)

Games
Currently: Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Warframe, Destiny 2,...
Future (looking to play this in max settings at 70-144fps/hz): aaa games like Starfield, Horizon Forbidden West, GTA 6,... Unreal Engine 5 titles

If it doesn't matter, I'll go with the cheapest one.

For 1080p i would pick the 7700Xt, faster, newer, and 12gb is more than enough for any game at max settings on 1080p, atleast for now, in future you might have to lower settinga a bit, but you will still be on the higher end.

12GB of vram is not an issue if you don't intend to use raytracing, that goes for both 1080p and 1440p resolution. So I'd choose the 7700xt.

Thank you! 7700xt it will be! 🙏

I was thinking to ask the same question. Had some issues with my PC so, while waiting for a solution (aka shipping of new parts to replace the broken), i gave my 6600XT to my brother and now he wants to keep it and partially pay for me to get a new GPU. 7700XT sounds like a good choice but any recommendation on which model?

Practically any of these 3 fan designs will be good, make sure you have a legit powersupply before buying it.

A Be Quiet 850W should be enough i think. i'll probably get Hellhound since its on the lower end of the budget. Having to replace a burned PSU and mobo did a number on my wallet. The silver lining in all this bad luck lately is that at least the CPU survived.
