Question 6800 XT low FPS

**I know there are a lot of these types of threads already, so I do apologise. However, I have reviewed a bunch, and none of the solutions offered have worked.

I am experiencing low and stuttering FPS with a 6800 XT in various games @ 1440p. PC specs below:
  • MPG B550 Gaming Edge WIFI
  • Ryzen 3700X
    • Currently stock standard
    • DarkRock 4 Pro cooler
  • 2x16GB Kingston HyperX Fury 3200MHz (HX432C16FB4K2/32)
    • Installed in slots 2 & 4
    • XMP (profile 1) is enabled
  • Sapphire Pulse 6800 XT
  • 750W EVGA PSU
  • LG 27GP83B 27" monitor
    • 2560x1440
    • 165Hz
    • Freesync enabled
  • UserBenchmark Results: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63553666
    • Note: The HDDs are purely for storage, so ignore them. NVMe drive is used for gaming.
The worst culprit that I'm seeing inconsistent and stuttering FPS in, is MWII/Warzone. I know that no one really gets good + consistent frames with this game. However, I am seeing around 70-90 frames (inc. stuttering dips) - with all settings on low.
Note: Whilst in-game, CPU, GPU and memory utilisation are all relatively low, so it doesn't seem like there's any bottle-necking going on (but I may be wrong). See Adrenaline metrics: View: https://i.imgur.com/T7Ischc.png

I know that 70-90 isn't that bad, but it's not even consistent anyway. It's a stuttering mess, especially during gunfights/action.

Any help is appreciated, as surely this GPU can do much better in general (particularly with games on low video settings)?

Cheers, Sam

What happens if you turn the settings in game to high? Also try changing speed of memory to 2933 see if this helps at all. What I see is your system is not using either of your cpu and gpu very much during gaming.

@Fix_that_Glitch, thanks for the prompt response.

I set all WZ quality settings to 'high' and left the memory @ 3200. The FPS was pretty much the same (70-90 + stutters/fluctuations), but used a bit more GPU util overall.

I then changed the memory speed to 2933, and the FPS & util was more or less the same (as @ 3200). However, the stuttering was significantly worse (movement etc. felt very clunky).

One thing I noticed was, my memory util never went above 50% (regardless of game settings + memory speed). Not sure if this is because there's 32GB total, or related to the low/stuttering FPS issue.

low fps is due to your cpu not keeping up with game engine
as for stuttering, intel made pretty neat monitoring tool which works on amd/nvidia cards aswell

here example from one game with vsync 60 when game runs in borderless windowed fullscreen

game doesnt run fluid even tho it shows 60fps and frametime matches vsync60, 1% low fps is bad (stutters/not fluid)

and here game switched to exclusive fullscreen

whys that, well in exclusive fullscreen most of your resources are reserved for your game, whatevers in background has to wait

Hey there,

I'm pretty sure your monitor supports Freesync/Gsync. At lower frames than 120/144 it will smooth out your gameplay, a lot. Which LG do you have?
@Roland Of Gilead, it's a 27GP83B and Freesync is enabled. Sorry, I should have added this info to the initial post (edited now).

@kerberos_20, thanks for the detailed response. I'll download that Intel tool and see what sort of results I get!
Note: I do run the game in full screen exclusive.

Also, if the CPU is the issue, wouldn't I see the util maxing out? I never saw it go much higher than ~40%.

@kerberos_20, see screenshot of Intel PresentMon stats:

This is just in the firing range. So, it's not even loading any maps and the FPS is still low + movement/gameplay is not smooth.

games doesnt use 16 threads, 40% would be 6.5 cores load
I assume this is not the case for all games, right? As I tested BF2042 (med/low settings), and CPU util is consistently above 90%.

Notice that GPU and CPU util are higher, but not RAM. Again, not sure if related, but figured it's worth mentioning.

yup, each game utilizes cpu differently

gpu is running fine, those fps drops are consistent? 80-70-80-70? like on picture?

Not consistent at all. That's the average FPS, but it stutters and fluctuates. This results in very unsmooth gameplay, which is the most consistent part, unfortunately.

The GPU definitely seems fine, so I'm confused as to why this is occurring... I expected frames to be around 120+ and consistent - especially when everything is on low settings. If this is not achievable with the current specs, what upgrades would you suggest?
