So yeah.. 6800k or Dual Xeon 2670.
I'm pretty torn on what to get for my editing/gaming PC. Don't know whether I would get the most out of which processor. I will pretty much spend almost the same amount of dough.

Will be doing mostly editing with a little gaming on the downtime.

A little insight would be greatly appreciated. :)

A dual E5-2670V1 would give you 32 threads (with hyperthreading enabled) or 16 full threads but at only 2.6Ghz when fully loaded. Your memory speed MAXES at 1600, and could be 1333 depending on your config. You will probably have to have ECC RAM (check your motherboard). You will want to buy memory in multiples of 8 sticks to maximize your memory performance. A 6800K will give you at least 3.4Ghz fully loaded.

You have to determine if the software you are using will benefit from higher single thread performance (6800k single thread passmark of 2044) vs more total slower threads (E5-2670 passmark of 1618).

For gaming the answer is 6800k.

Thanks for the response. I will be using Adobe Editing Suite. Pretty sure it will benefit from multiple cores/threads.

Oh and the board I'm going for is the Supermicro X9DAE-O. I really wish they'd make their boards look badass. Haha Anyway, I'm nit sure how the memory is going to impact performance with my software since I can only afford non-ECC memory as of the moment.

Thanks again! :)

Hey kanewolf. I just found a lot of cheapo parts I could use for the Xeon build. Good call on that used ECC Ram! Hopefully this build will be successful. Using the Supermicro X9DAE-O. Wish me luck. Haha
