Hello, wich CPU is recomended for not bottleneck my system? i actually have AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ but i feel that is going to get bottlenecked.
I Can´t spend much, i´m thinking on a Phenom CPU 3 cores or above, maybe AMD Phenom X3 8550 or something alike

The original Phenom won't give you good results like you want, and also... your board is AM3... so there is no reason why you couldn't buy ANY current AMD CPU... even the Phenom II X4 955 or something... It is 4 core, 3.2Ghz, and it's a black edition which means you can easily overclock it with a simple multiplier bump in your BIOS. If budget is a high concern, look into the Phenom X2 565... it's 3.4GHz, and is usually around $50 cheaper than the 4 cores... it is also a Black Edition and can be easily overclocked.

Also, here is the CPU support list for your board;

http://us.test.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2694&ver=#anchor_os

Pick anything you like from that list... just try to get the best you can afford, and also try to get the Black Edition, because the overclock is painless and the stock heatsink and fan is quite good.... I am running the x4 965 BE @ 3.8GHz on the stock cooler right now. It is not hot or noisy. :D

Edit: Also, if you get a new CPU, check your BIOS revision BEFORE installing it. Most of the AM3 CPUs on that list may require you to update the BIOS before installation!

:bounce:

And the only bottleneck I can see on this board may be your RAM configuration since it is DDR2. If you are upgrading your CPU, now may be a good time to get a matching pair of DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066 if you are running a slower set now! :kaola:

^ It's a good lower end CPU, but if you are worried about future-proof or bottlenecks, getting the CPU with the most cache, like a Phenom II with 6MB L3 cache will insure you won't get a bottleneck... unless your RAM and video card suck, then that would be your bottleneck!

Sorry i didn´t mention it my full specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ , 6GB DDR2 Geil Ultra 4-4-4-12(128 bit Dual Channel) , Ati Saphire Radeon HD6870 1GB DDR5, Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5

I usually get my Bios updated, i actually run revision F7 , so what can you tell me about ir now?

And a PSU Xilence 600W gaming Edition , it also concenrs me the power consumption, so those Phenom CPU are about 125 W, what i thinsk is more that what i can handdle , and prices still alittle bit out of my range.

You'll need BIOS F8G to run the Phenom IIs... trust me about this, the Phenom II's will be much better than the first generation. More bandwidth, more cache and run a little cooler. A 600w PSU is fine, I only run a 550W Cooler Master. My specs are:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE Rev C3 125W OC to 3.8GHz with stock fan
Asus M4A88T-M
8GB (4x2GB Kingston DDR3-1333)
2 WD 1TB Blue Hard Drives
1 Pioneer DVD DL Burner
Video card is NVidia Zotac GTX465 (which uses like 175w I think)

Go over to the Cooler Master PSU calculator to get an idea of what you can handle. It says my current setup at max is 488w... and recommends only a 500w PSU, and I am running 550w... and I don't plan on adding anything else to my system to use power.

http://www.coolermaster.com/support/psu_calculator.php

:pt1cable:

If you don't need to upgrade in a hurry, just save for the Phenom II, they're worth it!

My problem is that a larger PSU will leave me unable to have a video card longer than the 9800gt. I am using the Cooler Master Elite 360 case.

Also, I might need to check the ratings... my PSU is the Chinese 220v version... I live in China right now... my PSU even looks much different from the US versions I see on the Cooler Master website.

I just looked at the side of the power supply in a picture I took when building this computer... It says:

230V ~ 10/~5A ... +12V1 15.0A +12V2 16.0A -12V 0.8A ...

However, the picture on my cell phone of the power supply might be wrong, maybe +12V1 is 16A also... I just can't make it out as well as the +12V2

Also since I am living in China and bought the local version, mine does not support 115v... no switch of any kind.

Hey OP, I was just in a simular situation as you. Listen to ohio and get the phenom II x4 955 (if you can afford it). I had a X2 5600+ and it was bottlenecking the hell out of my 5750... After I updated my bios and got the phenon II x4 955 I had a 20+ increase in FPS in all my games! And another thing this cpu will get you is peace of mind in the future, the original phenom's are still good but wont last you in the long run (AM2+ vs. AM3) and might still bottleneck a 6870.

Sorry for the wrong information. The picture in my phone is wrong. It was a pic of the Huntkey PSU from my Intel build. I was curious about my exact specs, unfortunately, I might be pressing the limits with my current PSU. I do in fact have the (eXtreme Power Plus 500) Chinese model. I just popped the case, pulled it out and had a closer look.

The specs from my PSU read exactly as the Chinese link I showed you. http://www.coolermaster.com.cn/RS-500-PCAP.asp

AC INPUT 230V 6A 60/50Hz
DC Output +3.3V 22A, +5V 25A Max output 165W
+12V1 18A, +12V2 18A Max output 360W
-12V 0.5A 6W
+5Vsb 2.5A 12.5W

Seems a lot different than the American counterpart?

Also, the PSU calculator says I am using 488W with my current setup... so I lowered the CPU back down to 3.4GHz. Perhaps I should get a better PSU, but I have not had any issues with it at all. Just build this rig a month ago.

955 $145 3.2GHz 4 core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808&cm_re=x4_955-_-19-103-808-_-Product

965 $165 3.4GHz 4 core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727&cm_re=x4_965-_-19-103-727-_-Product

970 $186 3.5GHz 4 core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103894&Tpk=x4%20970

Personally, the 970 is a waste of money. If you want to overclock any of them, you only have to raise the multiplier. Really they are all the same. But the 970 seems like a waste for a 100MHz bump over the 965. I bought the 965 simply because my local shop didn't have the 955, either one is good. 6 cores will run you only $180, but it is clocked at 2.8GHz per core and it is not a black edition, so you cannot overclock it easily with a simple setting, you would need to raise the system bus and core voltages.

x6 1055T 2.8GHz 6 core $180

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851&cm_re=1055t-_-19-103-851-_-Product

x6 1090T 6 core 3.2GHz $230 and it is a Black Edition which can be overclocked without any effort.

Thanks for the answer, but i am not sure if those CPU are fully compatible with my Mobo, there are Mobo updates, my Mobo is GA-MA790FX-DS5 with f8 update, the f8 update means that older updates are in? or i have to specifically put the one needed?
When i bought my Mobo it said on box that it supported yo AM2+ and Phenom CPU , im not sure if those will fit, AM3 are the same size as AM2 & AM2+ & Phenom?
Well im a little bit confused, since i get into the Gigabyte page and the one in spanish isn´t updated and it keep telling the only AM2+ support.
Can you help me?

The AM3 CPUs listed will also work in the AM2+ boards.

The list I posted clearly indicates all the current CPU models we recommended. As long as you have the F8G BIOS. I will post the whole list then, if you cannot visit it.
