Hey there guys, I know that there are probably TONS of threads asking the same question, but since each person has different needs compared to others, answers will be different (And this is my first rig so I'm a noob)! So my main question is, 6950 or 560ti? Let me give you a little information about what my setup will be so it can make the decision easier.

- I will be playing on a 1920 x 1080 monitor, with no plans for a second monitor/ going any higher than that res.

- I will most likely NOT cfx/sli in the future

- I don't plan on flashing my 6950 to a 6970

- Here's my computer build that I will be purchasing soon (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16751045)

So there ya go guys, I would also appreciate it if you give reasons as to why you chose what you did, because I know that these cards perform very close to each other!!!

Hands down 560 ti. Will last longer, future proof, and would run any game max at that res. IMO I prefer Nvidia as they have better drivers and GFX card control panel. Also the 560 ti won't run as hot as the 6950.

Yeah I heard that their driver support was much better compared to ATI in general. In terms of OC-ing this thing, will the 6950 perform better or the 560?

I was wrestling with this for a while, too. I ended up choosing the MSI 560 ti HAWK. My build is fairly similar to yours (with the 2500K OC'd to 4.3 GHz) and my new GPU is out for delivery right now! I'll report back tonight with some FPS in BFBC2 and Kombuster when I get it setup tonight.

Well you can over clock both cards pretty well, but support for over clocking IMO is far better on Nvidia cards, tho I haven't done lot of research on the 69xx series to know if they have much over clock support, but the 560 Doesn't generally need over clocking as the out of the box performance is great. If you over clock the 560 ti it can perform as well at the 6970 though.

alright! I'll be anxious to hear about it! I feel that either way I go I won't be disappointed, but since this is my first time building I would like input from everyone.

i'm currently using a 6950 and it's awesome...you can't go wrong with both cards i just prefer amd a bit more.

managed to overclock the core clock to over 1ghz stable and thanks to sapphire trixx fan profile the card doesn't see above 65C

but i think the replies say 560ti... just thought i'd give my 2cents

You know the 6950 has a faster memory clock. By a THOUSAND mhz. The 6950 is 5000, while the 560ti is 4000 mhz effective. There are a'lot of good sides to Nvidia. And i like Nvidia a'lot. But for the performance you get from a 6950. It can't be compared between the two.

These numbers mean very little, as the cards have different architectures/designs...(would you prefer a P4 3.8 Ghz or an i5/2300 at 2.8 GHz?)

it is the framerates (min, avg, and max) in actual games (as opposed to 3dmark, Furmark) that matter...

Hummm, both cards behave differently depending what games their playing and the resolutions.

Take a gander through this and it might give you a better idea:

Or see how a different thread turned out on the topic:

For my own two pence - both cards are more or less on par with each other and it just depends on which you can find cheaper, which brand you prefer or whether you want to crossfire, sli or overclock...
