So I recently bought components to update my computer. These components included:
-Asus X99 Deluxe II motherboard
-Corsair 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM (32 GB)
-Intel 6950x
-EVGA 1080 TI Founders Edition
-Samsung 1TB SSD
-1250W Corsair PSU
I ran into problems from the beginning. The computer wouldn't boot after completing the build. The power supply ended up being faulty, so I just used my old 1000W power supply and everything powered on normally. After that, everything else slowly became functional, but I am still suffering through some lingering problems.
The reason why I chose the 6950x is because I run a lot of automated optical character recognition on my computer, but the computer does not seem to be able to handle ABBYY Fine Reader 12 very well, and it renders the computer unable to play even a basic game like Kerbal Space Program. In my previous build (3960x, 780 TI, 32GB 1600MHz ram), I could run the OCR program, play KSP, and even have a YouTube video playing in the background. With this build I can have the OCR running and be playing a YouTube video, but once KSP starts the computer becomes unstable. KSP will run, but it lags quite a bit. One symptom that I have noticed is that in Task Manager, once KSP is started it shows the CPU usage actually going down. (Is this a symptom of not enough power?)
I tested the computer with 3Dmark, and initially it was getting 90% results on the stress tests at the extreme setting, even though it was getting FPS between 50 and 80. Benchmark was relatively low at ~9000.
At this point, I have checked temperatures, which all seem to be normal. The CPU doesn't get above 35- 40 (C), which seems low. The GPU initially maxed out at 84 (C), but I adjusted the fan settings, and it doesn't get above 65 or 70 (C) now. The cooling system seems to be operating normally. When I first completed the build, my installed RAM was only showing up on 3 or the 4 slots. I have now been able to get the RAM operable on all 4 of the slots. In HWMonitor, my GPU reads between 0.650 V and 1.025 V, depending on usage, the CPU reads ~1V.
Drivers for GPU appear to be up to date. BIOS is most current version.
I am unable at this point in the day to post screenshots of temps, voltages, etc., but I will be able to this evening.
Any ideas?
