Right now I have a Limited edition 6870 1gb, but it is old and getting to the point where it is starting to struggle with the new games. A guy I know wants to sell me his used msi 6970 lighning 2gb for $150 and I could always get a new diamond 7870ghz 2gb at best buy for $260 or wait another month and get something no more that $500. would I see an increase in gaming performance between the three cards that I mentioned???

HD 6970 would be fine. God I've purchased for $200+ in Canada, u American guys, things always sell in a better price. By the way, as a flagship in 2011, 6970 has some age but still knightful for me.

But for new games, I recommended GTX 760 after reading the review in Tomshardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-760-review-gk104,3542.html). It performs even better than HD 7950 and $250 is quite good for a new card. (HD 7950 still priced $300 in th US)
