6gb (1x2gb + 1x4gb) or 1x8gb

Im look into a laptop and my question is....

6gb are less but dual channel
And
8gb is more but single channel

Which is better?

Not for a specific purpose, just curious of what is best!

1x2gb + 1x4gb may result in compatibility issues and you end up with only 1x4GB, so 1x8GB would be preferable, but 2x4GB would be ideal.
