6GB of RAM but it only shows 4GB

I have a laptop and I have 2GB and 4GB of RAM in it but it only shows 4GB. CPU-Z shows 6GB does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Are you installed a 64-bit OS?
the 32-bit OS can only have max 4GB of memory

I've had 8GB in it before (4GB and 4GB) I gave my friend the 4GB one for a 2GB because he needed it.
