I have a mid-high end CPU and GPU and I have two RAM sticks in my rig, a 2GB stick and a 4GB one. Both are 665 Mhz clocked.

Should I upgrade my RAM to 8GB total? Should I get 1600 Mhz ones? What difference do they make in gaming (665 Mhz VS 1600 Mhz)? Do RAM affect FPS in games? Some advice please.

A boost from 6gb to 8gb wont make a fantastical difference. Neither will the speed, or running in dual channel as the memory controller is only designed for 1333 memory so may have issues on running higher rated memory especially as its a non K version CPU. You'd be better off saving your money and pumping it into an SSD or better GPU in fareness.
Whats your motherboard. 665 (I'm presuming 667mhz) is older DDR2 speeds. Also a matched kit maybe adviseable. Its dependant on your CPU (and its memory controller) and your motherboard. If you can provide model numbers I can check for you.

Thats why I asked for his motherboard and CPU details so we could look at it in more detail.

My CPU is Intel i5 2310 (second generation). I have Intel DH61WW MicroATX motherboard. I believe I definitely asked for DDR3 in the shop when buying. An app called CPU-Z shows 667 Mhz DRAM frequency in memory section and also it shows DDR3. If its actually 1333 Mhz then should I upgrade to 8Gb total of RAM? I currently have 6GB.

Thanks! I will go for SSD. I already have GTX 970.
