6GB RAM installed (1.45GB usable) - help

Just for a new laptop PC. It indictaes "6GB RAM installed (1.45GB usable)" - how can it be only using 1.45GB? Is there something I can do to change this?

Its a 64 bit version of Windows.

Open msconfig open boot tab then advanced and make sure there is no option selected for ram

open task manager and go to the performance tab, what does it say your total physical memory is and the total, available and free memory are?

On Task Manager-Performance-Memory it says:
Memory 6.0 GB DDR3 Memory usage 1.4 GB
In Use 1.1 GB
Avaialble 299 MB
Committed 1.8/4.4 GB Cached 302 MB
Page Pool 141 MB Non-paged pool 62.1 MB
Hardware Reserved 4.6 GB

it sounds like something is off in the bios, what i would do is go into bios and reset it to defaults and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion - its a new laptop PC though, so the BIOS should be exactly as it was - I did the BIOS reset to default, and no change.

from other forums, other people have suggested a bios update helped them but its most likely a memory option in the bios but try the update and look for any memory related options on the lines off address space remapping etc and enabling it.
