I bought an ASUS Strix GTX 970 and I was setting it up when I ran into a problem. My old card was a Radeon HD 7770 that used a 6 pin additional power supply. My new card had an 8-pin socket. I no longer have the cords from my power supply, which must have included an 8-pin to 8-pin connector. Currently it has an 8-pin socket on the PSU going to a 6-pin socket at the other end. I got frustrated and couldn't find any 8 pin to 8 pin cables online, so I tried plugging in the 6 pin cable end into the 8 pin socket on the card and turned on my computer and it seems to be working fine. I am wondering if there is any reason to think that it would be dangerous to try to run games with this set-up. I am also wondering if anyone knows what to do long term to get a cable that will properly run from my 8 pin socket on my power supply to the 8 (6+2?) pin socket on the card? I can't figure out what to buy.

My power supply is this: OCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply ‑ 600W
