6pin to 8pin adapterif

Hi, so my gpu just died and I decided to get the r9 280x (from gigabyte) as replacement.
However, that card needs 1 6pin and 1 8pin, and I only have 1 8pin which is connected to the motherboard.
Would the card run fine if I used an adapter such as this one?

most times the card comes with an adapter

though i am not a fan of using adapters as a decent psu should really have at least 1 8 pin pci-e on it to begin with

Do you think it will run it fine though? Should I be worried about the psu not having the 8pin pci-e? It had good reviews (although not many reviews at all) when I got it around 3 years ago.

its your choice really but thats an expensive card and to be honest i have never heard of that psu

sorry should be its not exactly a cheap card rather than expensive--got mixed up with another thread involving a gtx980ti

IMHO you should play it safe and get a power supply that is meant to support a card that draws that much power.

Is there any risk to it though? Can I try it and if it doesn't work just get a new PSU, or is there someway I could damage the card by doing so?

yes there is a risk if you connect too high a power draw to a cheaper psu

might be ok might take out the psu might do worse

And the fact that it's a 620W PSU doesn't affect this in the slightest?

no the wattage is pretty irrelevant

its the amps and the quality of the components used

I see, well thanks for the quick reply, I'm probably gonna test it to see if it works, if it doesn't, and worst case scenario my PSU goes to shit, I won't get that mad since I'd have to get a new one anyway.
